That is precisely what I said when I was just a very few minutes into plurking: “What the Plurk!” It was the first time that I used the word “plurk” as a verb and the exact moment at which I realized how truly cool Plurk was. It is very difficult for me to express the level of my affinity for Plurk. It is going to take a short history lesson to even get a good start.

I have been around the internet since 1977, when I got my first email address, and have been doing social networking sites since 1981, when I signed up for the Compuserve CB Simulator, the mother of all social networking sites. I became immediately hooked by Compuserve, even though they charged by the hour (!). There were months when my Compuserve bill was a much as my rent. It was the people there that well and truly hooked me, the astonishing and marvelous variety of cool people.

In the instant that I recognized that old Compuserve feeling, I knew I was hooked again, and that it was due to the people of Plurk. Yes, the GUI is way cool, and the founders seem to have gotten all the pieces right, but it is still the people that make Plurk what it is. My fellow Plurkers are phenomenal, and most of them are people that I would give a favorite body part to have over for dinner or a party. As soon as we can manage it, we need to start having Plurk-Parties! Or maybe Plurkivals.

About thirty seconds after the initial rush of feeling about Plurk, I knew I had to write about it. So I registered this domain name something like immediately. I would have had Plurkiverse up days sooner, but I was too damned busy plurking! I finally took a few hours off to get the site running and write this initial post.

What does the future hold for the Plurkiverse? And for this little section of it? I guess we’ll all find out together. These columns will almost certainly be more about people and the social aspects of Plurk than anything else. Remember though, that I am a geek, so some technical stuff is bound to creep in once in a while. In the main though, I’m all about the people.

If you see me plurking, say “Hi.” I’m KDFrawg.
